Safe Cruise

Project Safe Cruise Press Release: See www.projectsafecruise.blogspot.com & details below. Leave a message if you have experienced incidents involving poor security & safety practices of cruise lines. Hearings are scheduled; we will provide them to Congress. We must act to insure passenger safety. The current lack of safety & security is not acceptable especially after 9/11. On 5/12/05, we were on the Carnival Destiny near Aruba when an elderly couple disappeared without a trace.

Government could save $50 billion per year by having two shifts of white collar employees work each day. Office space costs $50,000/year for each employee yet we only use space 30% of time. We can no longer afford to have banker's hours for all. With over 2 million federal employees this cost-free paradigm change could avoid lay offs/furloughs and reduce pollution. Will Carnival Cruise ship Captain be Charged with Murder and Abandoning Ship

Carnival Cruise Lines and other Cruise Ship Corporations still do not care about the health and safety of their customers.

With the help of John McCain and the millions of dollars they spend on lobbying each year, they have prevented the passage of any meaningful legislation to improve safety and security on cruise ships. Royal Carribean is still incorporated in Liberia so they can avoid regulations, taxes, and corporate responsibility. The also flagged their ships for years there for the same reason. The millions of dollars they paid in fees helped finance Charles Tayor when he murdered close to 400,000 humans in Africa.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Taylor_(Liberia) ‏

LikeBain Capital and other private equity firms we have heard about, Cruise Lines only care about partying, profitting, and the bottom line. 173 individuals have gone overboard since 1975.

Captain of luxury cruise ship faces charges
(NECN: Scot Yount) - The captain of the luxury cruise ship Costa Concordia now faces charges of manslaughter and abandoning ship, which was two and a half miles off course, according to the Italian Coast Guard.

The sight of the mighty ocean liner on its side just off the coast of an Italian resort island is frightening.

Three passengers from Little Rock, Ark., said after the ship hit the bottom, the ship was listing so badly they couldn't wait for the lifeboats.

"One of the boats was full of 200 people, went down and caught on the railing the lifeboat tipped sideways and then fell and swung and everybody was screaming," said Mark Plath.

All three jumped into the sea with about 150 other people.

"One of the crew members was actually telling us we need to stay on. And that's when Mark was saying no we don't need to stay on, because it was sinking so fast. Where we were standing is actually under water right now," said Justin Baines.

The accident happened just as many people were sitting down to dinner. The initial investigation shows the ship hit underwater rocks, ripping a 150 foot gash in the hull.
There were scenes of panic as passengers rushed to abandon ship. A cell phone video shot by Americans who were on board shows what many passengers are calling chaos.

"I can't believe our ship is sinking!" screams one person in the video.

Three people were confirmed dead. Most of the more than 4,200 people on board reached land by lifeboats.

About 70 people have not yet been accounted for.

This man told reporters that he heard a loud bang while in the restaurant and that he ended up in the water for an hour and a half.

Passengers complained there were no evacuation drills and that the crew of more than 1,000 was disorganized.

Twenty-eight-year-old Melissa Goduti, of Wallingford, Conn., spoke to the Associated Press about her ordeal.

"It was so unorganized, our evacuation drill was scheduled for 5 p.m.," said Goduti, who had set out on the cruise of the Mediterranean hours earlier. "We had joked, 'What if something had happened today?'"

Reportedly, some Braintree, Mass., residents were on board the ship, but were rescued unharmed.

At this point, divers are working inside the ship to look for survivors or the bodies of those who are still missing.
