Safe Cruise

Project Safe Cruise Press Release: See www.projectsafecruise.blogspot.com & details below. Leave a message if you have experienced incidents involving poor security & safety practices of cruise lines. Hearings are scheduled; we will provide them to Congress. We must act to insure passenger safety. The current lack of safety & security is not acceptable especially after 9/11. On 5/12/05, we were on the Carnival Destiny near Aruba when an elderly couple disappeared without a trace.

Government could save $50 billion per year by having two shifts of white collar employees work each day. Office space costs $50,000/year for each employee yet we only use space 30% of time. We can no longer afford to have banker's hours for all. With over 2 million federal employees this cost-free paradigm change could avoid lay offs/furloughs and reduce pollution. Somali Pirate Demands Release of US-captured Comrades

Here is another reason to have trained, experienced, INDEPENDENT security/safety personnel on each cruise ship as will be demonstrated by Project Safe Cruise:

Jan 27, 2006 — By Mohamed Ali Bile
MOGADISHU (Reuters) - A Somali pirate has demanded the release of "comrades" captured by the U.S. Navy last week, threatening to kill hostages in the future if the call was not heeded, according to media reports on Friday.

Getting into the spirit of Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa? You won't be alone.
SUE CARLTON, the St. Petersburg Times Columnist Published January 27, 2006:
In the spirit of the thousands of pirates and partiers who will descend on South Tampa on Saturday, a few fun facts about Gasparilla:
Number of Tampa police officers attending: 820, plus 300 Hillsborough sheriff's deputies, plus 181 off-duty officers working parties, homes and businesses.

This is absurd! I feel safer on a RCCL ship than any major American city. Blame the big evil cruise lines, what a copout! I have cruised on RCCL 10 times and been on all the major lines, and they are some of the most professional and responsible people I know, both officers and employees. In the case of George Smith, RCCL did everything they were told by both the FBI and Turkish police. What else could they have done, put cameras in every cabin? The cruise lines are in vacation business, not police and crime pervention. They provide more than a reasonable level of security.

No wonder the cruise lines register their ships overseas and hire only non-amiercan employees. We are a country of wussies that blame everything on big evil corporations insstead of our own destructive behavior. I have seen passangers throw a fit because of events beyond the lines control, like the weather. Seriously, sometimes I'm embarassed to be an american . Go ahead and boycott the cruise lines, the more space for thoes of us that accept our own responsibility.
